Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Is seeing the Great Migration guaranteed on this tour?
A: This tour offers a fantastic chance to witness the Great Migration in the Masai Mara, as well as the Big Five. However, the migration is a natural event dependent on rainfall and the movement of over a million wildebeest. While our guides are experts at tracking the herds, sightings are most likely between July and October. The Masai Mara offers spectacular resident wildlife viewing year-round regardless of the migration's location.

Q: What is the difference between the train and flying to Mombasa? Which do you recommend?
A: We include the First Class train journey in the package because it's a wonderfully scenic and adventurous way to see the Kenyan landscape, turning the travel day into part of the experience. It is an 8.5-hour journey. However, if you prefer to maximise your time at the beach, you can opt for the 45-minute flight at an additional cost (approx. $150–$190 per person). We recommend the train for a more immersive travel experience and the flight for speed and efficiency.

Q: The tour is private. Will there be other travelers in our safari vehicle?
A: No, there will not be other travelers with you. "Private Tour" means the itinerary and the safari vehicle are exclusively for your group. Whether you are a couple, a family, or a group of friends who booked together, you will have the custom-made safari vehicle and your expert driver-guide all to yourselves for the entire safari portion of the trip.

Q: How much extra money should I budget for costs not included in the tour?
A: We recommend budgeting for the following:
1) Optional Activities: The Hot Air Balloon ride ($480pp) and Maasai Village visit ($25pp) are major highlights if you choose to do them.
2) Meals: Your first day in Nairobi has no included meals. Lunch is not included on Day 5 during your transfer to Mombasa. While at the Voyager Beach Resort, dinner at the specialty seafood restaurant is an extra charge.
3) Tips & Gratuities: Tipping your driver-guide is customary and a great way to show appreciation. A general guideline is $10-15 USD per person, per day for your guide.
4) Personal Expenses: Drinks, laundry, souvenirs, etc.

Q: How flexible is the itinerary? Can we adjust the daily schedule?
A: One of the key benefits of a private tour is its flexibility. While the overnight locations are fixed, you can absolutely discuss your preferences with your private guide. For example, you can decide on the start times for your morning and afternoon game drives or how long you'd like to spend at a particular sighting. The schedule is yours to shape within the framework of the itinerary.

Q: What does "All-Inclusive" at the Voyager Beach Resort really mean?
A: At the Voyager Beach Resort, your all-inclusive plan covers accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a selection of local alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at the designated resort restaurants and bars. The primary exclusion noted in this package is dinner at the specialty seafood restaurant, which would incur an additional cost.

Q: What vaccinations and visas are essential for this trip?
A: A visa (called an ETA) is required for most nationalities and must be obtained online in advance before you travel. For health, no specific vaccinations are mandatory for entry into Kenya unless you are arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission. However, we strongly advise you to consult your doctor or a travel clinic 4-6 weeks before your departure about recommended vaccinations and essential anti-malaria precautions.

Q: What level of physical fitness is needed for this tour?
A: This tour is rated as "Leisure." The safari portion involves minimal physical exertion as most wildlife viewing is done from the comfort of the safari vehicle. There will be some light walking involved during transfers and at the lodges. The beach portion is designed for relaxation. Overall, the tour is suitable for individuals with a standard level of mobility.
